Dr. Christopher Hooton is an award-winning researcher in economic development, the digital economy, and public policy. He is a senior researcher at Facebook where he works on digital economy and public policy issues. He also serves as a Senior Scholar (non-resident) at the GW Institute of Public Policy at The George Washington University and sits on the Board of Governors for the National Economists Club.

Dr. Hooton publishes research and academic work across a variety of media on the digital economy, economic development, and related public policy issues.  His work is regularly featured in leading news publications such as New York Times, Financial Times, and TechCrunch. He is also frequently invited to speak and present internationally on economic issues surrounding the internet, technology, economic development, and policy. 

Prior to his current role, Dr. Hooton served as the founding Chief Economist of Internet Association and in a variety of lead research roles at the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as other leading organizations. He also previously served as a Lecturer on policy evaluation and evaluation research at the Social Science Research Methods Centre of the University of Cambridge.  While serving as the founding Chief Economist at Internet Association, Dr. Hooton received the 2017 Edmund A. Mennis Contributed Paper Award from the National Association for Business Economics for his work on internet produced income and work, as well as the recipient with his co-author Davin Kaing of the 2018 Technology, Knowledge, & Society International Award for Excellence from Common Ground Publishing.
